Mumbai Indians : In 2009 Mumbai Indians have signed in Mohammad Ashraful, JP Duminy and Kayle Mills. In addition Shikahr Dhawan is transferred in their team along with Zaheer Khan.

The Indian Premier League will move its cricket matches to South Africa
The Indian Premier League will move its cricket matches to South Africa because of concerns about security after terror attacks in Lahore, Pakistan, and Mumbai.The five-week, 59-game tournament will start April 18, the IPL and Cricket South Africa, or CSA, said today. South Africa was competing with the U.K. to be host, and won mostly because the weather will be better, officials said.
The IPL, featuring the shorter Twenty20 form of the game, brought in $200 million last year, and organizers raised $1.8 billion from sponsors, television rights and franchise fees. The tournament was moved after some Indian state governments questioned whether they could provide security for matches and voting scheduled for the same time. South Africa hosted the first Twenty20 World Cup in 2007 and convinced the IPL that its cricket grounds could handle the event and attract crowds.
There will be a lot of disappointment that the IPL wont take place in India this year, but being in South Africa will allow our fans to watch it live on their television screens, Lalit Modi, the IPLs chairman and commissioner, said at a press conference in Johannesburg. Its been one of the hardest decisions weve ever had to make.
Almost 714 million Indians, equivalent to the combined population of U.S., Russia, Japan and the Philippines, will vote between April 16 and May 13 to elect 543 representatives. The election caused the Board of Control for Cricket in India to decide last weekend to move the tournament because of security. Indias home minister a day later said every game in India was safe.

IPL-2009 to commence in South African way
CAPE TOWN: The grand opening of the second season of Indian Premier League (IPL) will be held here on Friday.
In a bid to glitz the tournament up to the hilt, IPL chairman Lalit Modi has spared no costs to get fans into the stadiums and retain the global TV audiences that made the inaugural Twenty20 tournament a success.
Modi has spent lavishly in South Africa on the occasion of second edition of IPL.
Cape Town is no stranger to the rich and famous and the IPL teams are staying at the lavish and recently-opened One and Only, the city's latest five-star venture.
All the franchise owners, Shah Rukh Khan, Shilpa Shetty, Preity Zinta, the Ambanis, have arrived here.
Khan is one of Bollywood's biggest stars and owns the Kolkata Knight Riders, while Shetty is co-owner of the Rajasthan Royals and a former winner of Celebrity Big Brother.
Fellow actress Zinta is part-owner of the Kings XI Punjab franchise and will jet in from Port Elizabeth where she has been watching the team train and attending the fourth ODI between South Africa and Australia.
Business tycoon Mukesh Ambani is the head of the fourth-richest family in the world, and owns the Mumbai Indians through his conglomerate Reliance Industries.
Then there are the WAGS. England batsman Kevin Pietersen will return to his homeland with wife Jessica Taylor, a reality TV star who recently competed in TV's Dancing On Ice.
Bollywood actress Lakshmi Rai is also expected to spend some time in Cape Town watching India's pin-up captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, with the duo rumoured to be dating.
Cape Town's fashionistas will also be keeping tabs on Deccan Chargers with Andrew Symonds' girlfriend Katie Johnson joining the extravagana. Johnson was recently voted Australia's top WAG in an online poll.
IPL T20 2009 to be held in South Africa
Its official after a lot of speculation and drama. The second season of the high profile IPL Twenty 20 Cricket Tournament will take place in South Africa (SA). The date structure has also been changed. The IPL tournament will now begin on the 17th of April instead of the 10th April as stated earlier. The South African Cricket Board has assured tight security for all the players during the entire tournament. Personally Gerard Majola has assured this in a statement as reported by agencies. South Africa authorities says there will be no trouble staging the League and has assured full security. Cricket South Africa, it is reported, has also offered full support to the IPL.
IPL committee earlier decided to host the second season of IPL out of India after failed talks with the Indian Government officials. The main reason being security to be provided by the State government during the matches as it was clashing with the Lok Sabha elections.
Earlier today Lalit Modi was quoted saying ""We will have to evaluate clearly and carefully before coming to a decision about the venue. We also need to take the weather pattern into consideration as well". He had also said earlier that presence of a large Asian community makes England an attractive venue for the Twenty20 event.
The IPL Twenty20 matches will be played at 6 venues in South Africa namely: Durban, Cape Town, Bloemfontein, Pretoria, Johannesburg and Port Elizabeth. The Indian Premier League (IPL) moves out of India after its schedule clashes with that of the polls. Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) sources have told TIMES NOW that the tournament will under all probability be held in England, and that the other likely venue is South Africa.

will be out by Monday (March 23) evening, IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi said.
The decision to shift the Twenty20 tournament out of the country was taken at the BCCI's emergency Working Committee meeting on Sunday (March 22). The cash-rich event had run into rough weather because of security apprehensions.
BCCI after its meeting to resolve the IPL logjam said that they considered all aspects of staging IPL in India, but could not do so.
The league will be held either in South Africa or England after security apprehensions and owing to a clash of dates with the general elections, the organisers were forced to take the April 10-May 24 event out of India.
Lords and Oval are likely to be venues of the matches if England hosts the tournament. The BCCI said that the venues of the tournament would be announced in two or three days.
IPL will suffer due to absence of Pak players: Younis Khan
The Pakistan Government banned its players from participating in the IPL after political relations with India deteriorated in the wake of the Mumbai terror attacks, which New Delhi blamed on militants based across the border.
By the time the IPL was relocated to South Africa, following the Indian Government’s refusal to provide adequate security, as the event overlapped with parliamentary elections, Pakistani players’ contracts had already been either terminated or suspended.
The IPL refused to include Pakistan players even after the relocation, claiming new stars had been bought by franchises as replacements, The News reported.
“Pakistani players are hugely popular in India, so even after the shift, the fans will miss them,” said Younus.
All-rounder Sohail Tanveer played a leading role in Rajasthan Royals’ title triumph, taking 22 wickets to finish as player of the tournament.
Fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar, who despite playing only four games for Kolkata Knight Riders, was a huge attraction, still hopes for a return.
“Without Pakistani players the event has lost its charm. I still hope if the franchises want us we would be included,” said Akhtar.
Pakistan’s two world-class umpires, Aleem Dar and Asad Rauf, were also left out in the cold.

"To do it at that point in the game gave us a real platform to go into the game," United manager Alex Ferguson said. "We wanted to start the game quickly with good tempo ... but to get a start like that, no one can expect it, no one can expect that type of goal."
Defending champion United stretched its unbeaten run in the Champions League to 23 games by becoming the first English team to win at Porto in 12 matches. The English team won a second leg away from home for the first time since 1999, when it also won the continent's top club competition.
Man United will next play English rival Arsenal in the semifinals after the Gunners beat Villarreal 3-0 to advance 4-1 on aggregate. Chelsea will face Barcelona for the other place in the May 27 final in Rome.

Ferguson, who was marking his 150th Champions League match in charge of the club, had said earlier this week that he expected more from Ronaldo. "We feel very bad. You can understand our emotions. We feel that wasn't a very just result today," Gomes said. "They scored one goal today and it was scored by the best player in the world."
Brett Lee to miss Kings XI Punjab opening matches in IPL -2009
CAPE TOWN: Fast bowler Brett Lee will miss Kings XI Punjab’s opening matches in the Indian Premier League despite being withdrawn from the Australia ODI squad to play Pakistan in Dubai.
Australian medical staff decided Wednesday that Lee “is not yet fit enough to resume international cricket” and will stay in South Africa, where he has been recovering from ankle surgery with his IPL franchise.
Punjab physiotherapist Pat Farhat, who is from Lee’s state team New South Wales, has been supervising his rehabilitation and will continue to liaise with his Australian counterpart Alex Kountouris.
Lee is expected to increase his bowling workload over the coming weeks in the hope of catching the back end of the Pakistan series, but this will not involve playing for the Mohali franchise.
“He won’t be playing in the IPL,” Cricket Australia spokesman Philip Pope confirmed. “If he’s fit to play cricket, he’ll be playing for Australia.”
Regardless of whether he plays in Dubai, it seems the earliest Lee could represent Kings XI is May 9, when they are scheduled to take on the Deccan Chargers in Kimberley.
That leaves the Yuvraj Singh-led side short on fast bowling talent with injury ruling India’s Shanthakumaran Sreesanth and the West Indian Jerome Taylor out of the Twenty20 tournament.
Local left-armer Yusuf Abdulla was drafted in to back up all-rounder Irfan Pathan following Taylor’s withdrawal, and should provide value with his knowledge of South African conditions.
The only other fast bowlers on the Punjab books are little-known New South Welshman Burt Cockley and 24-year-old VRV Singh, neither of whom are out-and-out pacemen.

CAPE TOWN: The grand opening of the second season of Indian Premier League (IPL) will be held here on Friday. In a bid to glitz the tournament up to the hilt, IPL chairman Lalit Modi has spared no costs to get fans into the stadiums and retain the global TV audiences that made the inaugural Twenty20 tournament a success.
Modi has spent lavishly in South Africa on the occasion of second edition of IPL.
Cape Town is no stranger to the rich and famous and the IPL teams are staying at the lavish and recently-opened One and Only, the city’s latest five-star venture.
All the franchise owners, Shah Rukh Khan, Shilpa Shetty, Preity Zinta, the Ambanis, have arrived here.
Khan is one of Bollywood’s biggest stars and owns the Kolkata Knight Riders, while Shetty is co-owner of the Rajasthan Royals and a former winner of Celebrity Big Brother.
Fellow actress Zinta is part-owner of the Kings XI Punjab franchise and will jet in from Port Elizabeth where she has been watching the team train and attending the fourth ODI between South Africa and Australia.
Business tycoon Mukesh Ambani is the head of the fourth-richest family in the world, and owns the Mumbai Indians through his conglomerate Reliance Industries.
Then there are the WAGS. England batsman Kevin Pietersen will return to his homeland with wife Jessica Taylor, a reality TV star who recently competed in TV’s Dancing On Ice.
Bollywood actress Lakshmi Rai is also expected to spend some time in Cape Town watching India’s pin-up captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, with the duo rumoured to be dating.
Cape Town’s fashionistas will also be keeping tabs on Deccan Chargers with Andrew Symonds’ girlfriend Katie Johnson joining the extravagana. Johnson was recently voted Australia’s top WAG in an online poll.
IPL 2009 Indian Premier League schedule
I don’t think there is any need to tell what IPL is but for all those who don’t know, IPL stands for Indian Premier League sponsored majorly by DLF, collectively it’s called DLF IPL. IPL was started last year by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) under the vision of BCCI Vice President Lalit Modi. Last year in 2008, the first season of IPL held and was inaugurated on 18 April 2008 and carried on till June 2008 where the world witnessed Rajasthan royals as the world champions. This year around the session 2 of IPL will commence on 10 April 2009.

Who would have excepted that Rajasthan royals will win the battle between bat and ball. But as they anything can happen in the game of cricket.
