Moody backs Bopara for key IPL role

Kings XI Punjab coach Tom Moody is backing England’s Ravi Bopara to play a key role for his side in this year’s Indian Premier League.

Punjab have been hard hit by international call-ups, with Shaun Marsh, James Hopes and Brett Lee summoned for Australia’s series with Pakistan.

With Sree Sreesanth sidelined with a back injury and Jerome Taylor recovering following a car accident, Moody’s overseas options have been somewhat limited.

A maximum of four overseas players can play at a time and as such Moody feels Bopara, who has been in fine form for England recently, can play a prominent role.

”"With only four foreigners allowed, if anything this makes my job a little bit easier not having to speak to six international players and tell them they are not playing,” said Moody.

"The likes of Ravi Bopara certainly come into contention.

”He is very exciting in any form of game, and Simon Katich with his terrific form and experience is going to add value to the batting.

”Obviously the Sri Lankan pair of Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene will play an important role."
