Kevin Pietersen has reaffirmed his commitment to England, but has insisted he will not go on another long tour without his wife.
England’s number one batsman had whipped up a storm of controversy with comments last week when he claimed he had been left ‘mentally drained’ by quitting the captaincy and the events which led to Peter Moores’ departure in the aftermath of the disastrous tour of India.
It was later revealed that he had asked for time off during the current tour of West Indies in order to go home to see his family, which prompted questions over his commitment.
Pietersen has admitted that being away from his wife for 11 weeks had been a strain, but he stressed his commitment to playing for England had not wavered.
"I've never said I want to miss a tour and there's no way I will ever miss a tour," said Pietersen. "I love touring, but there's no way I'll be without my wife for 11 weeks again.
"We all want to go home, but it does not stop the commitment we all put in on a daily basis.
"I am absolutely 100 percent passionate about playing for England. I absolutely never take it for granted about wearing the three lions on my chest.
"The second part of the frustration was I hadn't seen my wife since January 21. It's the longest period of time I've been away from her."
